June 18th. Nov 17 + Related reddits now found in the. Great rifle at a great price. $350 is on the side of being a really nice deal, I picked up a 1913-production rifle in similar shape for $400 a few months back. Even if you paid $500 I'd still call it a deal.
Walnut, specifically French walnut, was the material all m/96 rifles left the factory with until 1915, at which point a lot of effort was made to bring in American walnut. Eventually by 1917, red beech was the domestically-sourced stock material of choice for new and replacement stocks You're right about the threaded barrel- some got threaded, others didn't. Shouldn't tremendously affect value.
You can find thread protectors out there if interested. You'll also be needing a sling and bayonet before too long! Shoot it, enjoy it, be safe. You seem in-the-know re. Swedish mausers. I've read conflicting things regarding safety of shooting modern 6.5x55 through older guns (implication being new stuff is loaded to higher chamber pressures than intended on the old Mausers). Any turth to that?
Any definitive references you can point me to on the subject? Also, any reccomendations/suggestions on what ammo these DO seem to like? Also, who makes the best brass in 6.5? I reload, once want to make sure I get some nice quality cases stockpiled.
Any info appreciated.
